Emergency Lights
MJ Fire Safety provides a comprehensive supply, installation and maintenance service in all aspects of emergency lighting.
Emergency lighting must now be installed in all new buildings and should operate automatically with sufficient illumination to enable persons to evacuate the premises safely. Emergency lighting and signs should clearly show all exit routes from the premises, paying particular attention to stairways, changes in floor level, lift areas, wash room areas and public access. Fire alarm call points and fire fighting equipment should also be clearly illuminated and emergency lighting systems should be designed to permit safety operations such as first aid and fire fighting.
Emergency lighting falls into three categories:
- Maintained - operates when the normal supply to the mains lighting fails, but can be switched on and off in the normal way when mains supply is healthy.
- Non Maintained - emergency lighting illuminated only in the event of a mains failure.
- Combined (was Sustained) - has more than one lamp, with one lamp dedicated to emergency use and operates when the mains fails.
